Italy January EU-Harmonised CPI Confirmed at +1.7% y/y

Feb 21 (Reuters) - Italian EU-harmonised consumer prices (HICP) fell 0.8% month-on-month in January and were up 1.7% from the year earlier, official statistics agency ISTAT said on Friday, partially revising down preliminary data.

The preliminary estimate had pointed to -0.7% month-on-month and +1.7% year-on-year.

January's +1.7% annual rate was up from +1.4% in December.

The main domestic price index (NIC), rose 0.6% on the month and increased 1.5% annually, accelerating from 1.3% annual rise in December.

Core inflation (net of fresh food and energy) was running at +1.8% year-on-year on the HICP index in January, unchanged from the month before.
